Product Environmental Claim Verification
With the rising consumer environmental awareness, product manufactures are increasingly interested in making product environmental claims and declarations. However, they are also facing consumers’ distrust of such claims, and the issue of how to best demonstrate the veracity of their claims. Thus, EDF has been offering the Product Environmental Claim (“PEC”) certification service following the requirements of ISO/CNS 14021 since 1998.
Scope
ISO/CNS 14021 covers the requirements of the following environmental claims and declarations: recycling ratio, reduce use of resources, recover energy, reduce solid waste, energy efficiency/energy conservation, water conservation/water-saving, life extension, refillable/reusable, recyclable, dis-assemble design, compostable, degradable/biodegradable/photo-degradable, and XXXX(content)-free.
Projects
EDF has successfully assisted more than 40 Taiwanese domestic manufacturers in demonstrating their claims of "no ozone-depleting substances use", "recycling ratio", "energy saving" and "use of only natural resources". Just in helping demonstrating no ODC use to the U.S. IRS alone, EDF has helped the manufacturers saved over US$10 million dollars in excise taxes, and convinced the IRS not to treat Taiwanese manufacturers as the main subject for collecting ODC exercise taxes.
