Bio-data of Invited Foreign Speakers

1. Mr. Peter Nohrstedt

Peter is a Biologist and has several years of experience from working with environmental issues in private enterprises and in local and governmental authorities. In 2001 Peter worked as secretary for the Swedish Governmental Committee for Ecologically Sustainable Procurement and was responsible for developing the Swedish tool for ecological procurement (EKU). Since 2003 Peter is employed by the Swedish Environmental Management Council as manager for the EKU-tool and he is also a member of the International Green Purchasing Network Council.

 

2. Prof. Hideki Nakahara (DOB: 1950)
Chairman of Japan¡¦s Green Purchasing Network (GPN)

Prof. Hideki Nakahara has a degree in Business Administration and is accredited in Environmental Management and Environmental Education.
He is a professor of the Faculty of Environmental & Information Studies and of Graduate School at Musashi Institute of Technology in Japan, and his current research is on the subject of sustainable consumption and quality of life. He is the Chairman of Japan¡¦s Green Purchasing Network (GPN) and also Executive Director of Academy of Environmental Management. In May 2007 he received the Tower Person Award for Consumer Educators International 2007 from the Consumer Citizenship Network (CNN) in Bulgaria.
His major publications include ¡¥Wither Human Ecology¡¦ (2004), ¡¥Sharing the World¡¦ (2000) and ¡¥Eco-label and Green Marketing¡¦ (1998).

 

3. Mr. John Polak

Mr. Polak is a Professional Engineer with over thirty-five years of experience in the environmental sector and at the senior management level. He has worked on issues related to transportation, air pollution and energy for Environment Canada, environmental management in the Yukon, development assistance delivery, international environmental policy and environmental labelling. Internationally, Mr. Polak has represented Canada in organizations such as OECD, UNEP, UNCTAD, ECE and ISO and negotiated and implemented bilateral environmental cooperation agreements. He has authored technical and policy papers, including a number related to environmental labelling, trade and change management and has addressed the WTO, UNCTAD, OECD and UNEP on the subject of eco-labelling and trade. Domestically, he has managed voluntary and regulatory environmental programs, both from Ottawa and in provincial and territorial capitals.
In July 1995, Mr. Polak created TerraChoice Environmental Marketing Inc. and remains on staff in the capacity of Founder.
Mr. Polak is the past and current Chairman of the Global Ecolabelling Network, an organization he helped found in 1994.

 

4. Mr. Hiromi Mori
Secretary General, International Green Purchasing Network (IGPN)

Mr. Mori spent over 10 years working at Canon' European Headquarters in Holland, and during this time he headed the Microfilm Service Dept and the Fax Product Division. He returned to Japan in 2002 to be General Manager of Environment Business Planning Division at the Global Environment Promotion Headquarters of Canon Inc in Japan. He was appointed as Secretary General of IGPN Secretariat in 2006.

 

5. Ms. Stacey A. Foreman

Stacey Foreman currently works for the City of Portland, Oregon, Bureau of Purchases as a Sustainable Procurement Specialist. Stacey has worked with the City since 2002 on incorporating more environmentally preferable products and services into City purchases and activities. As part of her responsibilities, Stacey conducts trainings for City employees and regional government purchasers on green procurement and contributes to furthering green procurement on a regional and national level.

Stacey holds a Master of Science in Environmental Management and Policy from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York and has previously worked for both nonprofit and corporate organizations in areas of green procurement, energy efficiency, climate change mitigation, and policy development.
